Breaking: Beirut Hit by IS
IS claims twin suicide bombings near Hizballah hospital in Beirut
In an online statement, the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a pair of suicide bombings that left at least 37 dead and more than 100 wounded in the southern Beirut neighborhood of Burj al-Baranej, which is a Hezbollah stronghold. The attacks took place almost simultaneously and appear to have targeted a Shia community center and a hospital nearby. This attack appears timed to incite sectarian tensions in Lebanon, as Hezbollah has been reinforcing the Syrian army in its war against IS.
