Meanwhile…Iran’s Nuclear Program Marches On
While Americans have been watching “important” stories in the mainstream media, such as the birth of Kim Kardashian’s baby, Anthony Weiner’s sexting and exhibitionist escapades, and the bankruptcy of Detroit, Iran has continued its work to enrich uranium in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and in defiance of UN resolutions.
Outgoing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced this week that Iran was set to bring 5,000 centrifuges online to add to the 12,000 already operating. Centrifuges are a key component in the uranium enrichment process. Of course, enrichment is the vital stage to creating nuclear bombs. And the latest estimates indicate that Iran could reach that stage by mid-2014.
The Iranian nuclear threat, which 3 successive presidents have sat and watched for 20 years, is the gravest national security threat that this nation faces today. Should the Iranians become a nuclear-armed power, the political and strategic terrain of the entire world will be forever altered.
Future generations will ask: “How did they ever let it happen?”
