Pajama Boy as Commander in Chief
Today on Secure Freedom Radio, Frank Gaffney spoke to Tom Donnelly of the American Enterprise Institute.
They discussed Obama’s latest budget proposal and the way in which he has systematically decimated the military through budget cuts. The changes Obama has made are so severe that Donnelly said:
“It would take the next president, if he or she had a change of mind, fully two terms in office and several hundred billion dollars of investment to restore what Obama has destroyed.”
For perspective, Donnelly pointed out that the military Reagan inherited from Jimmy Carter was in better shape than the military Obama will pass to the next president. Our Navy is in particularly rough shape, a point on which Gaffney and Donnelly agreed.
Looking forward, Gaffney asked Donnelly to frame this issue in the context of the 2016 election. Donnelly noted that security is now a large concern for the American people but added:
“So far, neither party’s candidates have really addressed this issue.”
Gaffney brought up an interesting point about the disconnect between civilian society and the military. With new rules governing women in combat and gay people serving openly, there is a cultural shift in the perception of military life. Donnelly responded by saying that he is more concerned about civilians than the military.
“I don’t mind having women in the Rangers, I’m just worried that ‘pajama boy’ will be the commander in chief.”
“If he hasn’t already been for a while.” Gaffney responded with a chuckle.
Finally, they discussed the fact that the military may now be subject to the left’s environmental agenda. The idea that our armed forces would have to worry about their carbon footprint while waging war is absurd.
“At some point, there are bound to be consequences.” Donnelly said.
“That’s the point.” Gaffney concurred.
