Morsi & America on Trial

On the eve of this potentially explosive proceeding, Secretary of State John Kerry dropped by. He used the visit to lecture the regime that displaced Morsi on the need promptly to return to what he called “democratic and inclusive” government.

Yesterday, Mohamed Morsi went on trial in Egypt on charges of inciting murderous violence. Morsi is the Muslim Brother whose arrogant drive to impose full-blown sharia on an unwilling nation led to his overthrow in July 2013.

On the eve of this potentially explosive proceeding, Secretary of State John Kerry dropped by.  He used the visit to lecture the regime that displaced Morsi on the need promptly to return to what he called “democratic and inclusive” government.

The trouble is, as a practical matter, that means the United States is once more pressing the new anti-Muslim Brotherhood government to allow its Islamist enemies to compete for power.  By so doing, Team Obama is placing America yet again on the wrong side of history.  That’s neither in Egypt’s interests, nor ours.
