Defeat Shariah, Not Just the Islamic State

President Obama meets today with the bipartisan congressional leadership, ostensibly for “consultations” on the strategy that he has developed since announcing recently that he had none for dealing with the Islamic State.  The rest of us are supposed to learn of Mr. Obama’s plan on Wednesday.

Already, there are leaks of some of the elements, including ways he proposes to “destroy” the group he insists on calling ISIL, presumably to avoid having to make explicit its connection with Islam.

Until we acknowledge that essentially all our foes are animated by the Islamic supremacist code of shariah, however, we will be chasing one group after another in a deadly version of the children’s game “whack a mole.”

Will either Mr. Obama or his congressional interlocutors recognize this reality?  Don’t bet on it.
