Law and order. Before it was the name of an immensely popular TV crime show, it was a concept that enjoyed broad bipartisan political support. And for good reason: For years, American cities and other communities suffered from surging violence, death and destruction, usually driven by drug-related criminal activity.

In 1994, then-President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, worked with legislators on both sides of the aisle to protect public safety. In an exchange yesterday sparked by protesters associated with the George Soros-funded, proto-insurgency known as “Black Lives Matters,” Mr. Clinton provided a spirited – and long overdue – defense of that legislation.

He pointed out that the law protected African-Americans, as well as others, telling the agitators, “You’re defending the people who killed the lives you say matter.”

We all still need law and order.
