Twenty years ago, the great New York Times columnist and longtime Washington political operative, William Safire, broke the code on then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. He called her a “congenital liar.”

Fresh evidence of Hillary’s reflexive dishonesty was on display in her appearance yesterday on the ABC program “This Week.” Under gentle questioning from her husband’s former aide, George Stephanopoulos, Mrs. Clinton insisted that, while she had made a mistake in using a private email server to conduct all her official business, others did the same, knew that she was doing it and didn’t clarify that it was a problem until after she left her job as Secretary of State.

The outrageousness of these numerous falsehoods calls to mind Bill Safire’s insightful observation that Hillary Clinton is “compelled to mislead, and to ensnare her subordinates and friends in a web of deceit.”
