President-elect Donald Trump has tapped yet another Great American to lead the Department of Homeland Security: retired Marine General John Kelly.

Gen. Kelly brings the skills of a battle-tested commander to a critical job, one that others have for far too long performed poorly. He has confronted firsthand the global jihad and Sharia, the anti-constitutional doctrine that animates it.  This experience will serve him well in protecting our homeland against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

As the former Commander of U.S. Southern Command, moreover, the general has grappled with the dangers posed by our porous border with Mexico and the Latin American region beyond that’s mostly been neglected by official Washington.  He knows it is awash with Iranian and other Islamic supremacist, Chinese and Russian operations that must be countered – before they become worse threats to the homeland and its people.
