President Trump meets today with Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is intent on becoming the next Caliph, or ruler, of a new Sharia-supremacist empire. Ironically, Topic A of their conversation is supposed to be bilateral cooperation in destroying the Islamic State – a group that also seeks the restoration of the Caliphate and has enjoyed Erdogan’s support.

Mr. Trump has been working hard to establish a personal rapport with foreign leaders – even those with agendas directly at odds with America’s. It would be a serious mistake, however, to paper over differences with Erdogan’s Turkey, which has ceased to be a reliable ally – whether with respect to the global jihad or just about anything else.

Indeed, Erdogan is playing for the other side. He must be held accountable – not rewarded – for collaborating with U.S. adversaries abroad and helping subversive Muslim Brotherhood groups here.
