Forty years ago, Arab armies launched the Yom Kippur War when practically every Israeli was preoccupied with religious obligations.  The Arab coalition very nearly succeeded in their longstanding goal of driving the Jews into the sea.

I am in Israel at the moment and have been struck by the fact that now, as then, the forces of the Free World are ignoring the nature and ambitions of the enemy arrayed against it.

In 1973, the Israelis were nearly destroyed for that failure. Four decades later, the Obama administration fails to understand the mortal threat posed by the Islamists. The cost of persisting in that mistake is likely to be another war, and we may not be able to survive it as, thank God, the Israelis did theirs forty years ago.
