Last week, President Trump announced that he’d be happy to be interviewed under oath by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.  Then, he signaled his lawyers would have to approve.

Mr. Trump should add a similar caveat to the immigration deal his administration unveiled yesterday: The people who elected him have to approve.

They won’t accept a deal that gives amnesty and “a path” to citizenship to at least a million more illegal aliens than are registered as so-called DACA “kids,” and enables additional chain migration for 4 million extended family members currently waiting to come here.  Especially without a “wall” actually in place.

If Mr. Trump ignores his base, they’ll stay home in this fall’s elections. That’s a formula for a Democratic-controlled House of Representatives, its impeachment of this president and the further transformation of the electorate, making very unlikely future Republican victories.
