This week marks the third anniversary of Team Biden’s abject surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban – arguably the greatest unforced debacle for the U.S. military ever.

Another one is intensifying in the waters off Yemen.

Iran’s Houthi proxies have gotten away with attacking international shipping there, effectively preventing all but Chinese, Russian and Iranian vessels from transiting the Red Sea. A large tanker struck recently is now leaking a million barrels of oil, precipitating an environmental catastrophe.

That disaster is being compounded by a strategic catastrophe. The Houthis have repeatedly fired missiles and drones against U.S. Navy warships the Pentagon has ordered to defend themselves, but otherwise retaliate only minimally.

Like our needless rout in Afghanistan, such politically engineered American security malpractice is emboldening our enemies worldwide and leaving our allies – in this case, especially Israel and Egypt – facing intensifying threats alone.

This is Frank Gaffney.
