Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump don’t agree on much but they seem aligned against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP. Mrs. Clinton said yesterday “I oppose it now, I’ll oppose it after the election and I’ll oppose it as president.”

If Hillary actually means it, what is probably most important about that campaign pledge – and what should be said by Mr. Trump, as well – is that President Obama’s current plan to ram this sovereignty-sapping and poorly negotiated trade agreement through the Congress during its post-election lame-duck session ain’t gonna happen.

But it certainly can. The President will have allies in Speaker Paul Ryan and a number of GOP Senators who won’t be returning next year and want to improve their post-government prospects by endearing themselves to the business interests behind TPP.

Clinton and Trump need to insist that Obama withdraw the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
