Congress Moves to Secure the Grid

Yesterday, the House of Representatives took an important first step towards protecting America’s electrical grid – and millions of its people whose lives critically depend upon it – from attack or naturally induced destruction.

Under the leadership of Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mike McCaul, Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions and Rep. Trent Franks, legislation requiring the nation to plan for such events was approved unanimously. That planning will hopefully make clear the necessity of taking steps to secure the grid before these things happen, rather than cope with the consequences afterwards.

The U.S. Senate should adopt this Critical Infrastructure Protection Act and President Obama should sign it into law as a matter of the utmost urgency. There is not a moment to waste in securing our electric grid – before it’s too late.
