Convicted Terrorist Supporter Al Arian Eulogizes MB leader Barzinji

We reported earlier this week regarding the passing of long time Muslim Brotherhood leader Jamal Barzinji, and his role in establishing numerous Muslim Brotherhood front organizations in the United States.  Now Sami Al-Arian, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad organizer convicted on charges of material support for terrorism and deported to Turkey, has eulogized Barzinji in a recent post at the leftist website Counterpunch.

Al Arian sings the praises of Barzinji, particularly in his role as a leader of the International Institute of Islamic Thought, a Muslim Brotherhood organization Barzinji founded together with other long time Muslim Brotherhood leaders. Perhaps Al Arian’s feels he owes Barzinji effusive praise, since it was evidence discovered at a law enforcement search of Sami Al Arian’s home which identified the role IIIT played in helping to support terrorism and led to a series of law enforcement raids, including on Barzinji’s home.

Indeed IIIT was the largest funder of Al Arian’s World Islamic Studies Enterprise (WISE), a front for Palestinian Islamic Jihad, according to none other than the Secretary General of Palestinian Islamic Jihad Ramadan Shallah.

Barzinji is noted by name, in a letter to Al Arian from IIIT co-founder Taha Jaber Al Alwani, when he says,

“I would like to affirm these feelings to you directly on my behalf, and on behalf of all my brothers, Drs. Abdel-Hamid [AbuSulayman], Jamal [Barzinji], Ahmad [Totonji], and Hisham [Al-Talib], and, at the same time, affirm to you that when we make a commitment to you, or try to offer, we do it as a group regardless of the party or façade you use the donation for.”

The commitment in question was a $50,000 donation to Al-Arian’s WISE.
IIIT also paid WISE for the services of PIJ co-founder Dr. Bashir Nafi, and employed Tarik Abdulmalik Hamdi, who entered the U.S. with Al Arian’s assistance. Hamdi, during his time at IIIT would be linked to Palestinian Islamic Jihad, but also Al Qaeda, including providing the satellite phone with which Osama Bin Laden would coordinate the East Africa Embassy bombings.
Even now that Jamal Barzinji has passed on, it is nice that Sami Al Arian is still identifying himself with them, in order to remind us of the close ties Barzinji and the other Muslim Brothers at IIIT had to terrorism.  Ties which may not have been discovered without Al Arian’s help.
