Doubts about Osprey don’t negate need for tilt-rotor technology

The Pentagon’s acquisition chief has raised doubts about whether the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft can become a viable addition to the military, but he holds out the possibility that the innovative successor to the helicopter will go into production.

The Center for Security Policy has been a strong advocate of the Osprey from the beginning, and last year held a roundtable of distinguished military and civilian experts who confirmed the need for the aircraft and its tilt-rotor technology.

The technology in the V-22 is crucial to a more modern, more efficient, and more lethal military – especially for Marines and special operations forces. It is important that the Pentagon not close the book on this remarkable advance in aviation.
