America has lost its original Iron Lady, a title Phyllis Schlafly deserved like Britain’s Margaret Thatcher for being, in equal parts, tough as nails and classily feminine.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Phyllis during the last three decades of her enormously productive and influential ninety-two years. Phyllis’ prodigious work ethic – reflected in some ten books and truly countless commentaries, radio programs, TV appearances, speeches and other good works – helped inform and shape generations of American policies and politics.

Particularly appreciated were Phyllis Schlafly’s extraordinarily knowledgeable and vociferous support for the practice of peace through strength, the fielding of a modern and credible U.S. nuclear deterrent and keeping women out of ground combat and the draft. Her marvelous organization, Eagle Forum, will continue to carry forward her flame in these and other areas, but she will be sorely missed.
