Surely you recall that American voters last November gave a mandate for change. You might even have been one of them who entrusted the majority in both the House and Senate to Republicans who promised to check President Obama’s overreach and hold him accountable for his misconduct.

If so, you are probably disappointed with what has happened since. So are more than a hundred national figures who today sent an open letter to Congress.

The other signatories and I believe that legislators must be held accountable for not doing what they promised. They must stop accommodating and enabling presidential violation of the Constitution, and start fulfilling their own constitutional responsibilities.

If they don’t, it is a safe bet American voters will give a mandate to a new congressional leadership next year.
