Rarely has more been riding on a seemingly innocuous vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. Later today, its leadership will try again to ram through legislation that will help finish Barack Obama’s fundamental transformation of America.

The vote amounts to a do-over – a second attempt to clear the way for what is being represented as a Pacific free-trade bill after the first one foundered in the House last week.

This gambit should also be rejected. If approved, the President will use such “fast-track” authority to assure subsequent congressional assent to his so-called Trans Pacific Partnership. Senator Jeff Session correctly warns the practical effect will be to make our Congress like national legislatures in Europe – irrelevant, displaced by unaccountable transnational authorities.

Please, please urge your representative to reject Trade Promotion Authority today.
