Recognize – and Counter – All Enemies, Foreign and Domestic

Yesterday, Americans got a crash course on a reality most of us have long ignored.  Four top U.S. national security officials briefed White House reporters to warn that our country is under attack.

They focused on Russia’s past and ongoing influence operations aimed at “weakening and dividing” the United States.  That’s what hostile powers do to their adversaries.  Such efforts by Vladimir Putin’s regime should be robustly countered and trigger appropriate retaliation.

The same should apply, however, to even more comprehensive and far more effective influence operations long mounted against us by Communist China and Sharia-supremacists led by the Muslim Brotherhood and, increasingly, by Turkey.

In the 2018 elections – and for the foreseeable future – we are going to face enemies, foreign and domestic.  We can ignore that reality no longer and must be able and willing to respond in equal measure.
