As usual, Sen. Ted Cruz is rocking the boat – and with good reason. He has asked the Federal Aviation Administration five straightforward questions about how airlines, and the agency that regulates them, are addressing the threat that individuals infected with the ebola virus will fly into this country.

It says volumes about the Senator and his critics that his perfectly legitimate exercise of the Congress’ oversight responsibilities is sparking controversy.

If anything, the Senator should have gone farther – by calling for an end to air transit out of the West African nations afflicted with the burgeoning outbreak of this disease. Short of that, how are we going to keep people who have been infected but aren’t yet showing symptoms from boarding planes, getting into this country and becoming our public health emergency?
