Situation Report: CSP update on the recent solar storm (May 10-11th 2024)

Last week, I produced a detailed video warning about the potential hazards associated with an impending Solar Storm striking the U.S.

The short video below provides an update from that recent May 10-11th 2024 Solar Storm, how it compared to previous solar storms (1/20th the size of the 1859 Carrington Event), and what we know about the Ground Induced Currents (GICs) it produced.

[Note that the cover photograph for this article was taken by a substation engineer working for a utility currently utilizing EMPRIMUS’ SolidGround Neutral Ground Blocker.  The SoldGround NBD activated 13 times at this substation during the solar storm around noon on Friday May 10th  – twelve to twenty-four hours prior to the anticipated solar storm impacts – prompting the engineer to drive out early Saturday morning to witness the aurora that was causing the NBD to activate!]
