Statement from Former House Intelligence Chairman Pete Hoekstra on the Upcoming Worldwide Threats Hearings

WASHINGTON – Former House Intelligence Committee Chairman and Chairman of the Center for Security Policy Advisory Board issued the following statement in advance of the upcoming Senate and House Intelligence Committee’s annual Worldwide Threats Hearings:

“The annual Worldwide Threats hearings provide an important opportunity to publicly talk about the threats facing America, including the threat of using America’s spy agencies to spy on Americans. The powerful tools possessed by our intelligence agencies are meant to keep our nation safe and they cannot do that if they are pointed internally instead of at threats coming from abroad. I encourage lawmakers of both parties to ask tough questions regarding the Constitutionality and legality of weaponizing the CIA and NSA to collect intelligence on Americans, and whether this is the dangerous path the Biden administration intends to tread.”

Center for Security Policy President Fred Fleitz added the following statement in advance of the annual Worldwide Threats Hearings:

“Given the need to focus on state-level threats emanating from China, Russia, and Iran, it seems our spy agencies have more than enough foreign threats to cover without being tasked to spy on Americans. We need our spy agencies collecting intelligence on foreign targets and understanding what happened in places like Natanz over the weekend. Those are legitimate intelligence targets, not our neighbors.”
