The Bad News and the Good News about America’s Electric Grid

Center for Security Policy President & CEO, Lt. Col. Tommy Waller (USMC Ret.) joined Flyover Conservatives to discuss both bad news and good news surrounding America’s vital electric grid.

The bad news:  there is currently a 100% chance of America’s grid suffering a long term and widespread blackout due to the threat from solar weather.  The good news: it’s a fixable problem with an affordable solution.

Waller explained how the Center for Security Policy has just published an authoritative report about this threat, titled “Speed to Power on a Firm Foundation.”  He personally submitted this report as part of an official filing with the Department of Energy where the Center’s comments were made exclusively for the public interest.

Waller also explained that while the Center is providing this information to leaders in the Trump Administration, there is also a vital role for state leaders to take action on this threat. He reveals that the Center provided threat briefings to state lawmakers in New Hampshire that led them to inspire a nationwide resolution from the bipartisan and influential National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL)

Waller discussed how state lawmakers can file the “SAVE Transformers Act” to compel utilities to identify critical transformers that must be protected. He discussed how New Hampshire became the first to file this bill and how other states must follow.
