The Pentagon reportedly has been resisting White House pressure to release the jihadists still detained at Guantanamo Bay or bring them here. If true, it would be one of the few instances in which the Defense Department leadership has successfully pushed back on Barack Obama’s cavalier disregard for the national security and public safety.

Understandably, the military doesn’t want more freed enemy combatants rejoining the fight and killing its servicemen and women.

Our warriors also seem to recognize that the President’s efforts to close the world’s most secure prison facility and move its occupants here would violate the law. That would make a directive to do so an unlawful order and our troops are duty-bound not to execute such commands.

Let’s pray the Pentagon continues to resist the closure of Gitmo – and spare us all the dangers that would flow from it.
