The United States Senate this week indulged in an act of moral preening, and unilateral disarmament.

Moral preening because senators bought into the argument that our enemies or others will think better of us if future jihadists we want to interrogate know exactly the techniques to which they will be subjected.

And unilateral disarmament because the Senate has foreclosed our use of any techniques we haven’t publicly endorsed. Our adversaries, of course, are operating under no such restrictions.

Should the Senate’s prohibitions actually become law, it is predictable that we will get even less of the human intelligence we need from individuals who have inside knowledge of secretive terrorist organizations.

Sorry Senator, we can’t afford to make it any easier than it already is to wage war against us with impunity.
