“There is no side [in Iraq] that we can consider an ally to join with… We [did not] win the allies that President Bush told us we would win. Told us, and indeed predicated his entire war policy on: that we would stand up Iraq and have a new ally in the War on Terror…There may be an American interest in peace and love throughout the world, [and] that may be the broader interest. However, there is no practical application of this in such a place because these are Islamic-warring nations… Attaching our interests, our prestige, our men and women, and blood, and treasure to these warring factions is a lose-lose situation. This is not the front to fight this battle on. That front is not one we can win because, again, it’s like quicksand. You establish a Fallujah and then it’s gone because there is no one there to keep it.” –Diana West on why the U.S. should not get involved again in Iraq
