Trump’s Immigration Order is Legal – and Necessary

Amidst all the legal maneuvering and political posturing about President Trump’s executive order restricting immigration, critics seem determined to ignore one key factor: The law is on the President’s side.

As Commander-in-Chief, Mr. Trump is constitutionally responsible for protecting the country and its people. But there’s also this relevant statute found at 8 US Code 1182(f):

“Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”

Mr. Trump’s predecessors have exercised such authorities to protect us.

So must he.
