A violent crackdown in the Ukraine by Russia’s kleptocratic ruler, Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian puppet, Viktor Yanukovych, is as old Communists like them say, “no accident, comrade.”

For one thing, Russia is currently staging the Sochi Olympics. So, the world’s nations are especially reluctant at this juncture to strain relations with the host country. For its part, the Obama administration continues to delude itself that the Kremlin will actually help us with its Iranian and Syrian clients if the U.S. overlooks bad Russian behavior.

America needs to stand squarely with Ukrainians putting their lives on the line to secure for their long-suffering country a place in the Free World. That means denouncing and penalizing violent repression by their government and its enabling by Russia that is, of course, no accident, comrade.
