Who’s Left At Guantanamo
Fox News reports today that the State Department is designating as terrorists two groups responsible for the September 2012 Benghazi attack, as well as the individuals who run them:
The department announced that it was labeling Ansar al-Sharia in Benghazi and Ansar al-Sharia in Darnah as terror organizations, in part over their role in the Benghazi attack. It applied the same label to Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia, over a separate attack on Americans in Tunis.
The State Department also labeled as terrorists Sufian bin Qumu, head of the Darnah branch and a former Guantanamo Bay detainee, and Ahmed Abu Khattalah, head of the Benghazi branch. (emphasis added)
Here’s a question about bin Qumu: If this guy — this guy — was deemed ok to release from Guantanamo back in 2007, what does that say about who’s left, and may yet be transferred back to the battlefield if the “close-Gitmo” crowd has its way?
J.D. Gordon, a former Department of Defense spokesman for Western Hemisphere issues, knows a thing or two about who we’re holding at Gitmo, and shares some important insights on this subject here.
