New Jersey’s Robert Menendez yesterday became the second prominent Democratic Senator to announce his informed opposition to the Obamabomb nuclear deal with Iran. He declared: “If Iran is to acquire a nuclear bomb, it will not have my name on it.”

Interestingly, there may well have been no deal at all had Sen. Menendez’s name appeared somewhere else. Last April, Obama’s Justice Department engineered his removal as the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

In his absence, President Obama was able – in a display of negotiating skill and determination wholly absent from the Iran talks – effectively to eliminate the constitutional check on his ability to capitulate to the mullahs.

So, Sen. Menendez’s name won’t be on their bomb, but a relative handful of congressional Democrats are poised to join Barack Obama in having theirs on it.
