Maersk Line has recently stated that Iran has released the Maersk Tigris cargo ship seized by the Iranian Navy last week as the Maersk Tigris was traveling through the Strait of Hormuz. The crew was in good condition and the Maersk Tigris has resumed course to its original destination, the port of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates.

Iranian officials maintain their version of the story where the ship was impounded due to outstanding disputes between Iranian oil company Talaieh Pars Oil Products Co. and Maersk Line over products that had allegedly already been delivered without payment. Said officials state that the release had nothing to do with security concerns or the fact that the US Navy has been sending warships to escort vessels through the Straits of Hormuz. Allegedly, the Maersk Tirgirs was released after Maersk Line agreed to pay the $3.6 million dollar fine.
