2010 Keeper of the Flame Award: James Conway

On the 14th of September, 2010, the Center for Security Policy honored outgoing Marine Commandant General James T. Conway at the annual Keeper of the Flame Award Dinner in the East Hall at Union Station in Washington, DC. The evening recognized General Conway’s years of service in the Corps as well as his success training the next generation of American military leaders.

The Keeper of the Flame Award recognizes a leader who exemplifies the Reagan philosophy of Peace through Strength.  Past recipients include President Ronald Reagan, Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretaries of Defense Caspar Weinberger, James Schlesinger and Donald Rumsfeld, Senators Jon Kyl, Joe Lieberman and Jim Inhofe; and Generals James Jones, Richard Myers, Peter Pace and Jack Keane.  General Conway is a most fitting addition to this distinguished company, as he accepted the award on behalf of his beloved Marine Corps and as recognition of the vital mission it performs so well.

Unlike many Washington dinners, the Center’s Keeper of the Flame Award is relatively intimate– involving a select group of only about 350 men and women who care passionately about the future of America and are joined together in celebration amidst a palpable sense of camaraderie and shared commitment.
