If the United States winds up embroiled in a war in Syria, Senator John McCain will deserve much of the blame.  He recently visited some of those on whose behalf he insists America must fight.

The senator calls them “rebels” and “the opposition.”  In fact, they are all now allied with al Qaeda in seeking to overthrow Syrian dictator Bashar Assad. Most are Islamists who are sworn enemies of infidel nations like ours.

We went down a similar path in Libya – again at Mr. McCain’s urging.  It has turned into a hotbed of jihad, where erstwhile “rebels” funded and even armed by the United States are now running amok there and elsewhere in the region.

The Senator may give President Obama political cover to make another strategic mistake.  Both should be opposed.
