Women Actually Don’t Want to Serve in Ground Combat
So, how’s it going with President Obama’s insistence that women serve in ground combat positions?
In short, not well. Sensible military commanders and troops alike warned that women would find it very difficult even to train for such missions, let alone perform them.
The Marine Corps nonetheless did a rigorous experiment to assess the actual toll entailed. It confirmed that few, if any, women could meet standards designed, not by bureaucrats and politicians, but by hard experience with war. Coed units’ mission performance was negatively affected, and many participating female Marines suffered injuries.
But the White House insisted the Marines’ study be ignored and made women eligible for ground combat anyway. Only, it turns out that not a single female Marine has signed up.
Team Obama should take “No, sir” for an answer.
