What are the national security implications of large-scale mass migration? How can foreign threats -from both state and non-state actors- exploit mass migration to cause upheaval and create an existential threat to a nation?
The Center for Security Policy looks at these and related issues in its newest publication, Mass Migration in Europe: A Model for the U.S.?, by well-known author Robert Spencer.
Spencer – the author of 21 books – is the director of Jihad Watch, a blog which documents jihadist threats and seeks to explain the role of Islamic legal doctrine, history, and theology in motivating jihadist violence. Spencer is Center for Security Policy Senior Fellow, as well as Shillman Fellow with the David Horowitz Freedom Center.
In Mass Migration in Europe: A Model for the U.S.? Spencer explores how European elites sought out mass migration from the Arab and Muslim world as a panacea, only to find themselves overwhelmed by cultural, societal and security challenges that have threatened their pan-European utopian vision. Included among these challenges are skyrocketing crime, growing terror threats, the growing spread of radical Islam and an undermining of national unity and cultural confidence in countries across the European continent.
Examining controversial but important issues like the rise of European “No Go Zones” where increasingly European law enforcement is unable, or unwilling to maintain order; cultural and assimilation challenges such as the adaptation of Sharia law courts in Britain, and the increasing threat to freedom of speech as European elites seek to curtail – by any available means – growing criticism of their failed policies in the wake of a rising populist reaction, and how some populist leaders offer an alternative approach.
Perhaps most importantly, Spencer examines what lessons Americans should draw from the situation in Europe. Center for Security Policy President Fred Fleitz said about Mass Migration in Europe: A Model for the U.S.?,
As we enter this election season, differing views on immigration are likely to once again play a substantive role in the debate over our national security. We believe it is crucial that national security implications be considered in immigration policy. This new work by Robert Spencer paints a harrowing picture of what can happen when these concerns are totally ignored and when those who seek to address them are unfairly maligned.
