The Iran nuclear negotiations: Why the humpty dumpty JCPOA should not be renewed

As world powers met in Vienna this week to discuss how to revive the deeply flawed 2015 nuclear deal with Iran (the JCPOA), three leading Iran experts from the Heritage Foundation and the Center for Security Policy held an important webinar on December 1, 2021 to explain why the United States should not settle for a risky return to this deal or give into Iranian blackmail by agreeing to a partial deal which would give Iran some sanctions relief in exchange for freezing part of its surging nuclear weapons program.

Heritage Foundation Senior Research fellow James Phillips moderated this panel and was joined by Center for Security Policy President Fred Fleitz and Heritage Foundation Senior Research Fellow Peter Brookes.

The discussion covered why the JCPOA is fundamentally flawed and massive Iranian cheating on the agreement – especially since Joe Biden became president. This includes new reports that Iran may soon begin enriching uranium to weapons-grade.  Peter Brookes provided excellent analysis of how the JCPOA ignores Iran’ dangerous and rapidly growing missile program, the largest in the Middle East.
