President Obama’s former Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, has lately made statements confirming what has long been suspected: We haven’t gotten the full story about the murderous jihadist attack in Benghazi two years ago.

Some of the President’s defenders have called him a traitor. Others wonder why on earth we didn’t hear the truth from him at the time.

One thing is clear: With U.S. diplomatic missions and personnel in Libya, Yemen, Iraq and probably elsewhere in the jihadis’ cross-hairs, we must establish whether the lessons of Benghazi have even been identified, let alone learned, by our government.

In light of the present dangers to those targets, Rep. Trey Gowdy and his House select committee need to take testimony under oath now from Secretary Panetta and the others directly responsible for Benghazi.
