Benjamin Weingarten: American Ingrate: Ilhan Omar and the Progressive-Islamist Takeover of the Democratic Party

Benjamin Weingarten, Founder and CEO of ChangeUp Media LLC, Senior Contributor at The Federalist and Senior Fellow at the London Center for Policy Research, joins Secure Freedom Radio to discuss his new forthcoming book: American Ingrate: Ilhan Omar and the Progressive-Islamist Takeover of the Democratic Party.

Weingarten spells out the sponsors Omar has in her camp that continue to protect, enable and empower her radical agenda:

“You have the entire democratic party, for one, which has essentially caved to her, and as I mention, that was best represented in her invocation of anti-Semitic tropes regarding the Israel lobby and her “all about the Benjamin’s” comment. She has never truly shown any contrition for those comments and the democratic party refuse to censure her by name directly and her comments specifically.

It turned punishing her for her clear Jew-hatred represented in those comments into an attack against conservatives. That was really the effect of that resolution. Because of course, any criticism of Ilhan Omar is labeled as islamophobic despite the fact that it would be islamophobic not to hold her to the same standards of scrutiny as everyone else in America. So, it was a truly shameful and disastrous act by the democrats and I think it showed they would allow Ilhan Omar to act with impunity.”

Weingarten meticulously depicts the transformation of the Democratic party:

“The resolution that was original put up called out Ilhan Omar and called out her comments. By the time we got to the final resolution, it became an attack on conservatives and an act of protecting Ilhan Omar. This only transpired because the democratic establishment caved to the progressive forces in their party as well as the media. That shows the power of those progressive forces who Ilhan Omar headlines, who she is a representative of, who she supports, and who I believe are not only going to transform that party: they are going to fully take it over. It may take several iterations, and we see a battle right now between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, that’s one manifestation of it. But long term all the trends point in their direction, which I point out in American Ingrate: Ilhan Omar and the Progressive-Islamist Takeover of the Democratic Party.”
