Center For Security Policy Celebrates First Anniversary

(Washington, D.C.): The Center for Security Policy last night celebrated its first year of operations with a standing-room-only crowd of extraordinarily distinguished guests drawn from the senior echelons of government, industry and the media. The event, held at Washington’s Army and Navy Club, drew over 300 people who joined in honoring the Center with guest speaker, best-selling author Tom Clancy.

Frank J. Gaffney, Jr., the Center’s Director, noted that “The presence among the will-wishers of Commerce Secretary Robert Mosbacher, HUD Secretary Jack Kemp, House Minority Whip Newt Gingrich, Senators Pete Wilson and John Warner, Undersecretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz and ACDA Director Ron Lehman, Arnaud de Borchgrave and Ben Wattenberg is tangible evidence of the impact this new organization has already come to have in Washington.”

“The Center for Security Policy is not another ‘think tank;’ it is rather a ‘policy network,'” Gaffney said. “This network is helping officials of the executive branch, legislators and the media address fast-breaking issues affecting U.S. security in a unique fashion. By tapping the talents of its Board of Advisors — an impressive group of experienced policy practitioners — the Center is able to provide those who make, and those who influence, security policy with timely, creative approaches to such issues.”

Gaffney read the group letters of commendation from former members of the Center’s Board, Vice President Dan Quayle and Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney. The Vice President said, “I have benefitted greatly from the analyses the Center provides and have found the recommendations consistently helpful in clarifying policy options for sound nation security.” Secretary Cheney wrote, “I continue to follow the Center’s products with interest. Their quality and timeliness is remarkable — a record that I feel confident will be maintained in your second year and beyond.”
