The first critique of President-elect Donald Trump is now in.  Reportedly, he’s unable to recruit experienced foreign policy and national security professionals because they refuse to serve under him.

My own experience in the Reagan administration tells me that the unwillingness of such folks to work in a Trump administration may be the best thing that could happen to our government.  Neither the President-elect nor the country can afford the sorts of fratricidal conflicts that inevitably, and persistently, arise when large numbers of officials –rather than faithfully execute directions from the Commander-in-Chief – oppose and subvert the president’s policies from the inside.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other Americans – many with relevant experience in the armed forces, the intelligence community, law enforcement and the business sector – who can be counted upon to answer the call of duty.
