South Korean reports of North Korea continuing preparations to send more troops to Russia are credible, says Grant Newsham, senior research fellow at the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies. Speaking to CNA’s Asia Now, Newsham says future deployments may include specialised personnel such as drone operators, missile troops and engineers. He adds that growing military cooperation with Moscow and battlefield experience in Ukraine are making Pyongyang a more formidable threat, no longer the “laughingstock” it was decades ago.
