On this day, we try – or at least we should try – to say thank you to the untold millions of our countrymen and women who have sacrificed to keep us free. In many cases, that sacrifice by our veterans has meant lost limbs, disfiguring or giving their lives. We owe them a debt that can never fully be repaid.

The very least we can do for our veterans is acknowledge those still among us – and those future veterans still serving.

But there is something else we must attend to – not just on this Veterans Day but in those to come: We must ensure that those making such sacrifices now have the up-to-date and properly maintained weapons and other materiel, the training, and compensation that they not only deserve, but require to protect us.
