Americans have discovered that Silicon Valley and much of the San Francisco Bay area literally dodged a bullet – or more precisely 110 of them – last April.  The grace of God and quick thinking by control room operators narrowly averted disaster when an attack on an electric substation outside San Jose could have inflicted a protracted blackout on millions of us and our economy.

Four top Senate Democrats have written regulators asking what is being done to prevent a recurrence, possibly with vastly more devastating effects.

Unfortunately, as Judge Jeanine Pirro of Fox News has repeatedly warned, America’s power grid is extremely vulnerable to a variety of disruptions, including electromagnetic pulse and solar flares.

We don’t need more studies.  We need the grid protected against all hazards.  And we need it protected now!
