The eve of Memorial Day would seem a bad time for Senate Democrats to oppose legislation aimed at making the Veterans Administration more accountable and less prone to waste, fraud and abuse.

That’s especially true insofar as reported malfeasance in VA operations in Phoenix and elsewhere has rocked the Obama administration. The President and other officials assure us they are “madder than hell” about the systemic dysfunction in government-supplied health care for our veterans.

But even the modest, bipartisan legislation overwhelmingly approved this week by the House of Representatives is going nowhere in the Senate. According to Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, it joins a dozen other VA reform bills in that status. Veterans, and those who truly appreciate their service, deserve better – not just on this holiday weekend, but every day.
