The moon was hit spectacularly yesterday by a meteor, calling to mind Ronald Reagan’s notion that, if a similar thing were about to happen to earth, people everywhere would come together to save the planet and our civilization.

We may be about to test that proposition.

At the moment, we face not an asteroid but something that could be as fatal for modern industrial societies.  It’s called “space weather” and it can have a devastating effect on our electrical grid and everything that depends upon it – including our lives.

A conference in Washington this week reveals we are not protecting our electrical grid against space weather and similarly catastrophic electromagnetic pulse effects that our enemies can induce.  There is literally no time to waste if we are to keep America’s lights on.
