Absent protections, the next extreme solar storm could collapse the U.S. electric grid, resulting in millions of deaths—and potential loss of continuity of government. Comprehensive protection against solar storms would also mitigate the GICs generated from the E3 Pulse from a HEMP attack. Thus, nationwide GIC protection will rapidly bolster America’s nuclear deterrence against peer adversaries and rogue nations seeking to exploit the asymmetric warfare benefits of HEMP attack.
