The murder of a dozen journalists in Paris yesterday was an act of jihad. Its object was, literally, to silence those who, as President Obama infamously said before the United Nations in September 2012, “slander the prophet of Islam.”

Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical newspaper that has made fun of Islam’s Mohamed, among many others. In the course of the attack, one of the perpetrators declared: “The Prophet is avenged.”

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a courageous former Muslim who has long warned of the global jihad and the Islamic supremacist doctrine of shariah that animates it. She wrote in the Wall Street Journal today: “The West must not appease, it must not be silenced. We must send a united message to the terrorists: Your violence cannot destroy our soul.” Amen.
