The A-10 Warthog, a subsonic attack aircraft that has served for over five decades, is approaching retirement as the U.S. Air Force shifts to modern alternatives.
-While some lawmakers suggest Ukraine could use these aircraft, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall notes that Kyiv hasn’t shown interest due to maintenance and support challenges for the aging airframes.
-Introduced in the 1970s, the A-10 Warthog is renowned for its ground attack capabilities and close air support, featuring the powerful GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun.
-If Ukraine doesn’t procure them, NATO countries like Poland or Romania, which await the F-35, might benefit from the Thunderbolt’s capabilities.
