The Media’s False Choice
Tensions with Iran have been heating up over the past week after it was discovered that Iran had either been making plans to attack U.S. forces in the Middle East or had given the go-ahead for some of its Jihadist terror proxies to launch attacks on U.S. troops.
As has been reported in the news, the U.S. has deployed a carrier task force, an amphibious ready group, B-52 strategic bombers and Patriot missile batteries to the region to both deter Iranian aggression and to be prepared to respond with overwhelming force should the Iranians decide to launch an attack.
Most recently, the U.S. has ordered all non-essential personnel out of Iraq due to the threat.
Unfortunately, a side-show has developed due to a disinformation campaign being waged to attack the Trump administration for a brewing crisis for which it has no fault.
Leftist pundits and members of the so-called “mainstream” media are publishing unfounded reports attributed to unnamed sources making wild claims about U.S. plans, such as the New York Times claiming that the U.S. is deploying 120,000 troops to the Middle East. President Trump called that report “fake news,” but it was clear to most people knowledgeable about such matters that the Times report was nothing but wild speculation designed to whip up hysteria about “another war.”
Other media have blamed the Trump administration for these tensions for pulling out of the JCPOA—Obama’s Nuclear Deal with Iran. But those of us who are sober recognize that the JCPOA actually granted Iran a clear path to nuclear weapons, was largely unverifiable and failed to address Iran’s ballistic missile program, and sponsorship of terrorism. President Trump canceled the flawed deal a year ago. Only recently did intelligence detect that Iran was moving toward threatening U.S. troops.
One favorite target of leftist ideologues is National Security Adviser John Bolton, one of the clearest and brightest minds in the entire American national security community. The Left maintains that the whole crisis is Bolton’s doing and that “he’s finally got the war with Iran he has always wanted.”
These preposterous accusations should not even be dignified with a response. John Bolton has dedicated his life to America’s security. He is a true patriot and his critics aren’t fit to shine his shoes.
At the end of the day, Leftists are building a false choice in front of the American people. That false choice is between war with Iran and accepting the flawed JCPOA.
Americans must not buy into Leftist disinformation. Iran is no match for US military power and the Ayatollahs know it. President Trump and Mr. Bolton are wisely wielding American power to deter Iran and bolster our allies in the region. Showing weakness to a regime like that in Tehran, which follows sharia doctrine, encourages aggression. Responding with strength reduces the chances of war. The free world doesn’t have to accept genocidal Ayatollahs armed with nuclear weapons.
I for one am glad that a man like John Bolton is advising our president at a time like this.
